Velvet/Ich Question!

Maybe a silly question, but I’m curious. Can a wrasse (Scott’s Fairy Wrasse) have velvet or ich parasites but not show the tail tale white dots because of its thick mucus?

Hello! I had unfortunately lost the fairy wrasse from my first post he had issues. Flashing, not eating, hiding/lay on bottom, and when he would swim he would bolt around almost erratic. He started to seem to get better after a couple weeks, then died overnight.

I got a bellus angel, put it in the QT about a week later. I mistakenly did not decon the QT. He was not eating and has a big belly. Then boom velvet! I am currently treating with Chloroquine phosphate, using Humble Fish’s page. Seems to be doing better and finally saw him eat for the first time in almost 2 weeks. No interest in nori though.

So after all of that, I was curious if maybe the wrasse could’ve had Velvet, but never saw white dots though and it carried over to the angel. Or just be over thinking in boredom haha

I am far from an expert about diseases. I generally research the information on here or other online reputable sources. We have quite a few veterans on this forum who have been through it all. However, this is my two cents of information for you...some fish like clowns, etc may have a thicker mucous lining. It can make it more difficult for some external parasites to latch on on the outside. But don't forget that many of these parasites infest the gills, and that causes a lot of damage. You might not even see it on them and they could be really sick. Also... if one fish has it, it is likely that your other fish who have been in the same tank have it and they all need to be treated. It is highly likely that a fish will pass parasites on to others, Cryptocaryon/velvet could have just as easily been in the gills of the fish or in the system. As you said you didn't sterilize the quarantine before, that's probably what happened. I'm sorry for your loss, I hope the Angel's treatment continues to go well.
