Wonderful way to start the day. My qt is full and no room for another tank. Gonna lose some really nice fish over this. Helpless is an understatement. I know others have faced this before, it’s nothing new but man it bites! Had to be cross contamination in the air or , more likely, by me. Trust me I was very, very careful but it happened. Leaving town for the day. Deal with this mess tomorrow.

For all you Father’s out there, “Happy Fathers Day”!! Enjoy the day with your family if you are able. I feel bad for those in the military who can not be home for it.

Just back home. Thanks Humblefish, appreciate the suggestion. I thought about it but the tangs are very skittish so I think keeping them in anything less then a 4 ft. Tank won’t work, especially for 4 weeks. They struggle in my 70. The 120 when set up was to be the new abode. I can get the smaller fish in something l8ke a 10 ok but catching them will prove a real challenge I am afraid. On top of that my schedule includes about 60/70 hrs. this week in the shop. I will do what I can but I am prepared to catch sick fish as possible and if too bad go ahead and euthanize them. Bad timing all around.
Have a good evening!

So I decided to use my 120 future display tank and get the fish out for QT. Got the striped blenny out tonight. He has been through fresh water and is a bath of RRR right now. He is in rough shape but seems to be resilient. Time will tell . In the morning we will take the tank apart and catch the rest. The clowns are not gonna be happy to lose the eggs. The tangs will go nuts!! They should settle a bit after getting into the new digs.

You're doing the right thing, especially if this is velvet. The 120 can be cleaned afterwards and set back up as a DT.

First, thank you HF for your encouragement and instruction. I wonder when you find time to sleep.!

Got the fish out. Had to tear the tank all the way down. Lost one purple dottyback. They had burrowed into a hole in the rock and we got one to come out but the other stayed and died. Sailfin took it rough. It has a gash over it’s eye and the fins are split. Had to put the yellow tang in an acclimation box once in the 120 as it was trying to finish off the sailfin. Still have some corals to place back in the reef tank but will finish up tomorrow.
Two questions
1) should I leave the sailfin alone in the qt and chance the cut getting infected or take it out and treat separate? All I have is a ten if so.
2) so I am assuming that all tanks have velvet in them as I believe I may have passed it on through my water station which is in the same room as my qt. I have a large sump for a future build which I assume has velvet in it. It has rock and a couple small crabs in it and some decorative algae. It’s a stock tank. Can I dose bleach into the sump and let it do it’s thing and then clean everything ( powerheads and skimmer) in bleach and then vinegar and finally run prime or another chlorine remover in the sump and then recycle it? Same for the water containers? Does velvet live in fresh water?
Thanks, Jim

This is a tough call; if the gash looks really bad you might want to put him in the 10gal QT for awhile and treat with antibiotics.

I would sterilize any vats/equipment you think might have been compromised with bleach. That will eliminate velvet.
