Back in June I noticed I had some sick fish and on 6/22 I had a massive die off and lost 6 of 8 fish. My diamond goby and zebra bar goby never showed any signs of it. I determined the disease to be velvet that killed everyone else. On 7/8 To be safe, I pulled my survivors out and into quarantine. I let my display run fallow since that date(6weeks). The two fish I treated with copper for 30 days and are on day 12 of observation. They are both pigs, so no worry there. I ran a UV and turned the tank up to 81 degrees. I did a few water changes, vacuumed the sand and made sure to blow the rock off. I think I’m ready to put my two gobies back into the display. Should I wait longer to pull the trigger? Thanks

42 days fallow at 81 degrees is a bit short for ich. True velvet has a slightly shorter fallow period, but it is pretty rare and commonly gets misdiagnosed.

I’d go 60 days for a more conservative time, at least I’d go another week.

All the signs for velvet was there. It was sudden, my tang stuck himself to the power head and so many spots (like powdered sugar). I figured I’d wait until next week at minimum. Appreciate your reply

Other signs will be fish will scratch body against hard objects, lethargic behavior, Loss of appetite and weight loss, Rapid, labored breathing, Fins clamped against the body, and typically stay at the surface of the water, or remain in a position where a steady flow of water is present in the aquarium.
Ich always shows spots at first.
Although these cysts appears as tiny white dots often the first sign of ich, what sets velvet apart from other types of ich is that the fish have the appearance of being coated with what looks like a whitish or tan to golden colored, velvet-like film given the name Velvet Disease as you said you recognized..
Treat the fish in the QT with a copper-based medication. While many remedies contain the name as ich treatment, best choice is coppersafe or copper power at 2.25-2.5 therapeutic level at 80 degrees for a FULL 30 days monitored by a reliable copper test kit such as Hanna Brand (no api brand).

Yep. I had all of that and the tang stuck itself to the power head at the top of the tank, wouldn’t eat. Everyone died within 48hrs of noticing a problem. I did exactly that, 30 days of copper with a Hanna checker. I followed the humble fish page for all of this. I think I’ll wait it out a little longer. Thanks for your input
