Hey there, had an outbreak of velvet in my tank, killed everything. Lesson learned. Question I have is I can't find the body of the damsel I had in there, I'd rather not tear apart the tank trying to find it but if I have to I will, my question being is it essential to remove it for the fallow period? If so, obviously I'll have to hunt it down. Thanks for the info.

If it did not get eaten. It will float to the top eventually
Should not impact fallow period though

Alright, I'm gonna bump this and see if I can get some info if not might have to make a new post. My last fish died in my 90 on January 31st, the tank was wiped out by velvet. I was not able to get the body out as I couldn't find it. I had intended on giving it a full two months/8 weeks to fallow. Is the lack of removing the bodies a problem? If it is, how much longer should I leave the tank fallow? Thanks in advance.

Well if you don’t have fish cramped in a tiny qt tank waiting for the real estate I would wait for longer, no use rushing. Is the damsel for sure dead? The parasites can feed a dead tissue..if it’s alive still then you have another problem

Most likely it swam under a rock and died, and your inverts finished it off. Not much you can do short of tearing the tank apart to see if it was eaten (and you possibly won’t even find it).
Fallow for velvet is about 6 weeks, if you go 76 days (that was the ich fallow) you have an even better chance of nothing being left to infect the fish.

No impact, they need a live host to complete their lifecycle. Bigger issue would be with ammonia. If you have some Nas/ceriths they will snort it out and eat it.

Will eventually decompose. Nassarius snails will make quick work of it along with other snails and amphipods can be added. Nature cleans after itself.
