Hi All,

I two days ago I brought my first saltwater fish home, a blue spot puffer and a fancy white clown. They have been eating well (especially the puffer) and showing no signs of illness. Yesterday my clown started swimming up against the side of the aquarium and up and down the within the corner of the glass walls. I thought scratching but wasn't sure. I started Prazi Sunday night as I saw the white stringy poo from the clown. Both the puffer and clown are in a 10 gallon QT (they are both about 1.5 inches). The sg has been about 1.025 the whole time, and the tmp at about 78 the whole time. I just noticed a fuzzy blueish greenish color on the clown on the front of the top fin and bottom fin. I have seen NO white spots anywhere on the fish and they have both been eating well. The puffer seems completely happy and healthy. The pictures aren't the best (he's a quick one) but you can kind of see the fuzzy spots on the top and bottom of the clown. Any thoughts are appreciated!

Hi! Congrats on your new fish! Your doing it right by treating with prazi for the intestinal worms. Make sure to do another round in 7 days after a water change to complete the treatment. The "fuzzy" areas actually just look like part of his color markings to me. Maybe another try with the camera will get a better angle, but that's all it looks like to me. The swimming in the corner is something clowns do. They are strange sometimes and often hang in corners. Mine sleep in the upper left hand corner of my tank every night and the male hangs out there most of the day.

Thank you for the quick response Melypr :). Thats exactly what I was going to do with the Prazi thanks to yours and Humble Fish's posts! I was a bit worried about the color and fuzzy look as I didn't notice it a few hours ago, or over the last couple days for that matter. But I will monitor this. I also changed the lighting so maybe thats it. I'm a worrier I guess?! I think it was the blueish green color that had me wondering. I have also been using an air stone for a couple hours a day and the ammonia alert has read safe. The pictures don't show the fuzziness but you can at least see the color...

^^Agree with Meredith, I don't see anything wrong with the clown. Continue to monitor the fuzzy spots. If it's something to worry about, they will grow/spread.

Thank you both for your help! I would assume that if it does spread, then I could a wc since I ran Prazi and then start copper safe? I also have metro on the way. My only worry then is that I have a puffer in the qt as well. I will of course repost if it does spread for your opinion. Thanks again you two!

Also, not sure if it matters, but the water has become much more cloudy. I dosed with Prazi on Sunday night. Over the last day it's gotten cloudy. I know that Prazi that can make the water cloudy, but I thought it would only be when the medicine is mixing with the water. Not clear at first then cloudy two days later. Also, the tank/water has started to smell, but the ammonia alert shows no issues.

Did you use any ammonia reducers at any point when setting up the QT? Prazipro contains oxybispropanol as it's solubilizing agent, and sometimes that chemical can cause bacterial blooms (i.e. cloudy water) which lowers available O2 in the water. I would point a small powerhead towards the surface of the water or crank up the air stone to compensate for this.

When I set up the QT i adjusted the sg, the temp, and used bio-spira on a filter sponge for healthy bacteria. I let the tank run for 48 hours then brought the fish home. Have two pvc elbows in there for hiding if needed (they don't use). Other than that just Prazi. When I brought them home I floated them for 30 minutes for temp acclimation then put them in as I followed your thread and just matched the sg. The first night, Sunday night, I let the air stone run all night long. Monday and today I had the air stone in for about two hours each day.

I would let the air stone run continuously so long as the water is cloudy. The sponge is in a HOB powerfilter I assume?

Yes it is. It was a 10gal setup that came with the hob. I removed the carbon and bio insert and got a plain filter pad and dosed with bio-spira. I will leave the air stone running then.

I do have prime if you think its needed. I was unsure about using it along with Prazi. I figured better be safe and n0t mix meds if i'm unsure...

It seems to work out for some, but I've also read about people waking up to a QT full of dead fish after mixing Prazipro with an ammonia reducer. Therefore, I don't recommend it.

Thought so. I'll leave the air stone running and monitor the clown. Hopefully won't have to update again! Thanks for your help, and patience!

Seems to be doing ok. I left the air stone running all night until about 9 this morning and the water cleared up nicely. They both ate this morning as well (the clown less) but I haven't seen anything worsen. Which is good. I'll keep an eye on him and then the second round of Prazi Friday night after work (I'll do a water change then run carbon Thursday night). Thanks for asking! :)
