Ventilate filter housing

Hi guys,

I just heard that ventilating (by pressing those knobs as seen on the image) is important since there could be air inside the housing which decreases pressure/flow. Is that the main point why the housings should be ventilated?

When do you usually ventilate your filter housings, only after every filter exchange? Or even more often?

None of my RODI filter housing have that so never. My whole house filter does and I just use it to release pressure prior to changing the filter.

I have never once used one of these things for my house, but then again I have a small town home, haha.
