Vermetid Snail damaging the foot

I noticed today that my new purple foot BTA had its foot torn by a vermetid snail. Its new to the tank and has been under this rock, occasionally poking out for some light. I have a LOT of vermetid snails in my tank sadly. Do i need to be concerned about my BTA getting continuously damaged by their calcified tubes?

I would reach in with pliers or bone cutters and cut those tubes off. No reason to let them keep poking the anemone.

If the nem stays put in the same spot but sways back and forth rubbing against the vermitids I would be concerned with possible infection or splitting at some point. Not that splitting is bad but if the wound opens up enough it just might separate. Personally I would crush/scrape the vermetids off that area.

Thats what I've been trying to do. Due to the location being under the rock it is a bit tricky to get them all, but Ill keep at it. I may need to remove the rock to get a bunch of them all at once. Thank you

Well the worst thing imaginable happened Unfortunately the nem went up under the rock before I had time to break off the snails and basically crucified itself over them. I removed the rocks with the snails and pulled the nem off of its bed of nails and put it into a pyrex dish. It’s foot got torn open unfortunately. There are puncture wounds all over it right now. After moving it to the Pyrex dish it opened and reinflated itself thankfully. I did a huge water change and added more carbon to my chemical filtration. Anything else I should do?

I'd just give it time. It doesnt look unhappy. It should heal up and be perfectly fine. I bet you cant even tell in a few days.

If you suspect infection, a qt tank with light, power head and a round of cipro treatments .

Sorry to hear this. Hopefully it will bounce back. Just incase it takes a turn for the worse you may want to have some Cipro on hand. Not sure if you can get any locally but there are a few places online you can order it.

Sorry to hear yours went into the powerhead. They are prone to move around especially when stressed. I’m about to start doing a cipro treatment on my BTA tmrw.
