It started off as a few and I kept breaking them off, then when they started to increase I used glue to cover them. Now, they are exploding everywhere in the tank. What can I do? Is there a predator or a treatment? I'm afraid they are going to destroy all my corals, it's getting to that point.

I have the same issue will follow. My "theory "is the vermatids are related to excess nutrients ?

critters like vermetids ebb and flow with the maturity of the tank. they're obviously filling an ecological niche in the tank, maybe focus on that instead of killing them.

Manual removal is the only way to reduce their numbers. I'd focus on removing the larger ones and/or the ones near corals as they can be irritated by their webs. Do you have a lot of Euphyllia? The snails can hitchhike on anything but IME they tend to be more common on Euphyllia especially hammer/frogspawn.

The rapid growth of vermetids means you have a healthy tank - that's the good part! I have thousands of these things all over my rock - inside the rockwork, growing on the side of frag plugs, all over my rocks and overflow... If you can see my profile avatar, you'll see my Monticap growing all over and around it - it looks pretty cool if you ask me! Gives you an idea of how many of these things I have... I gave up trying to kill them.

Fortunately for me, they don't disturb my coral at all. I see the web's they spit out when my sand bed gets stirred up but my coral have never showed signs of stress by it... They are still growing fine. I wouldn't worry about them "killing" your coral. They are not destructive in my opinion.

They took off when i was feeding phyto or food similar. I suggest just keeping your water column clear of any detritus via filter socks, to not fuel them. Some have starved out and stop growing. While other's that still get a taste of particles thrive and grow... my avatar should be proof enough that they don't kill coral, since it's grown around and over it and keeps growing!

I wouldn't worry too much about it by trying to stick your hands in there each time to kill them. If you see the really big ones, then sure you can break those off but mine haven't gotten as big as some i've seen. They usually just grow about a quarter inch to half an inch at most...

I read in liveaquaria the Melanarus wrasse and seagrass wrasse will eat them, I bought a Melanarus wrasse hoping he will ear vermetids.

I don’t think they have any natural predator. The best you can do is to control yiur nutrient and flow, and manually remove them. Try to get rid of them by mechanically removing as many as you can, and do it periodically, like during water changes. The good thing is they are also not harmful to anything , so you can take your time and wage a prolonged battle

I don't think this is the case. I had a very aggressive Melanarus that would eat just about every gastropod in the tank (decimated my CUC at the time) but would not touch vermetids.

I have a fat and healthy 5” melanurus and he has never showed any interest in them. When I think he is nipping at one, he’s just eating a pod off the rocks
