I've got a couple of these growing on a astrea snail shell, are they any bad? They're purple and fairly tiny. I'm also getting these white spots on the glass that appeared when they did, are those eggs? Also if I would want to get rid of them what would be my best option?

Also, sorry if I put this in the wrong section of the forum, I didn't really know where to ask the question other than here.

This seems like the right section. You have any pictures? The vermetid snails that I had were white. I probably still have them but I got a Possum Wrasse and a Pinkstreaked Wrasse and I don't see them anymore. I want to say they're helping because I've seen them hovering around my snails when they are on the glass.

Edit:

I was thinking about pyramid snails.

I've only delt with a few of these that were on a piece of live rock....what I did was take the piece out and break off the tubes and scrape the area with a tooth brush. I haven't seen any since then. From what I've read they can cause problems with corals and get pretty out of hand

It's good you got them out early. I think they mostly harm snails and clams but not necessarily coral. I used to pull my snails out of the tank to pick all the vermetids off and there would dozens hanging around the opening. That's why I think the wrasses have helped to keep them down but I'm not one hundred percent sure. The vermetids could have all died from poor water quality for all I know :D

yea, I have very little knowledge on the subject and just happened to come across a thread here about them and realized the little tubes that kept growing and always had slime coming out of them weren't your regular filter feeders. I looked up any other info online and kept seeing that they could possibly harm SPS so I just went the safe route just to avoid anything

Lol :D, I think you know more than me with knowledge. I just realized I've been thinking about pyramid snails this whole time . That's why I'm worthless without pictures. Vermetids can totally bother corals if the webs are irritating them.

Ahem  Vermetid snails, right...
Disregard everything I said about wrasses. I've found that superglue over the tube will take care of them but I can't say I ever completely gotten rid of them. I think I just kind of stoped paying attention to them. If I think one is too close to a coral and the webs are bothering it I would try to break the tube at the base and hope it at least changed locations if it survived.

Are the white dots I'm seeing on everything snail eggs or something completely different? They have gotten off my glass but they're all over the rocks. Also are there any inverts that will eat these guys? Just in case I have any that I miss.

I'm not sure what the white dots are. A picture might help.

Kind of hard to tell. Almost looks like a small pineapple sponge but those are soft. Not sure.
