vermetid snails

For how invasive these were Im not taking any chances. I will frag the leather and I dont really care about the pulsing Xenia. i guess I can try to save a few snails but im incredibly worried about it. Im not sure its worth the risk.
I'm afraid you'll probably end up with them again regardless of how careful you are. I have noticed what seem to be several different types of vermetids in my tank. Some throw out mucus nets anytime I feed or stir up the sand, while others appear to be more benign and just create hard tubes - the second kind doesn't bother my coral at all and in fact, I have seen the thin tubes growing out of a few candy cane polyps.

For the second kind, I just break off the tubes when things start to look too "prickly".

I had them in many of my tanks in the past and they never bothered my corals and they didn’t bother me visually.

The more I read the forums the more anxiety I get for uncontrollable things. I’m trying to QT to prevent them, but I just know it’s a fruitless endeavor. They never bothered me before, so why should I start obsessing now? Sigh…
They have began to bother my 50+ head Duncan coral non-stop. Spewing nets all over it and half the heads won’t open. Get rid of them before their population explodes next time

Iv heard feeding flake food only works well. I guess they don’t have an appetite for it, so as long as the food source suspended in the water isn’t available. They will just starve off. I feed frozen mysis cubes currently. Might make the saw to flake for a couple months and just see what happens.
Also heard applying calcium carbonate (I think) directly to the webs and letting them take that in will fill them up and they cannot digest it…. That one I need to find again and double check for accuracy.

I tried everything to rid myself of them, I'd have SPS colonies that the coral spent most of its energy trying to out-grow the dozens of vermitids growing through it. I came to despise them.

I feed heavily, so that didn't help any

With this next tank, I will start from dry rock and very closely examine all frags.... but I'll probably end up with them again. Vermetids feel like aptasia, you just aint keeping them out forever.

Good luck!
