Trying to decide on adding 1,2, or 3 Vermiculate Wrasse to the tank. What would be the best number for success?1 male?Male and Female?or 3 females or 1 male and 2 females?

What is the size of the tank? Anything less than 100g and I would go with only one. Larger than 100g than I would get a trio.

Leopard wrasses are a little more reluctant to transition in captivity than other wrasses, so there is no guarantee that a trio of females will have one that will transition to male. However, there are times that a male leopard will kill one of the females that begins a transition in the tank.

I have a DSA 105.What would work out better 3 females or 1 male and 2 females?

Males don't handle shipping very well, but besides that, it's entirely a matter of personal choice.

Any reason you know of that why males don't ship well

Get 3 especially if ordering in then get free shipping with a 14day guarantee. ..wish i had a tank big enough for a trio

Right now my plan is to get 3 females when the weather gets a little warmer to ship across country.

I just got mine in last week from LA....so far so good ...goin start prazi treatment soon as i can figure out the appropriate dosage

Sounds good. I am thinking about trying Petsolutions they offer the same warranty and their free shipping is at 99.00.

Resurrecting an old thread, wondering how you guys made out with your wrasses from either LA or petsolutions?

Thanks dewboy. Did you go ahead and dose prazi, and do you recall at what dosage?

I honestly dont recall been while now i dont think i ended up treating her because didnt have place at time or want to risk quarantine and stressin her out even more ...getting them comfortable and eating seems be hardest thing about them imo..i started mine on live brine and blackworms once ate few meals and some time went by i transitioned to frozen

The 3 females i got from Petsolutions arrived in good shape and went thru quarantine for 6 weeks.Started to eat mysis and brine from day 2 and on.They got along well in a 55 barebottom. When i put them in the DT things went well for 3 to 4 days, then one of them started to bully the other 2 into hiding in the sand most of the day.The 2 only lasted for a few more days. The one i hve left is doing great.Likes to bully my small maroon male.

Thanks for following up! Interesting that they got along well for 6 weeks in a 55, then one became the aggressor pretty quickly in the larger tank. My DT has a 72x30 footprint, a little larger than yours, so maybe more room to work things out? I would love a pair, but since males reportedly don't travel well, I'm considering either two or three females. Based on the comments earlier in your thread, seemed like you followed the advice to get three females, but it didn't work out. Maybe I will try two females and see where that leads.

Yea hope it works for you.Maybe the one i have is just a bully female.
