Made the mistake of adding a caribsea life rock to my tank. Apparently it released not only a good amount of positives but an infestation of vermitids, now I have them everywhere. Is there anything I can add to take care of the problem? I also have many small feather dusters along with a very large one and i *think* a coco worm (has a double crown and calcium tube?) Just dont want those eaten vs the vermitids, tried crushing them but they came back with extras.

Caribsea Life Rock can bring in Vermitids?!? Didn't know that.... shame I just bought another 8 lbs of it to add with my existing LR today lol...to be honest, I already have a rather healthy bunch of Vermitid vermin, so is what it is here. My Bumblebee Snails control them somewhat now, but I still have nuisance webs in the tank when cleaning....

The vermited snails didn't come from the CaribSea rock. It likely came from some other source. CaribSea rock is fossilized rock that is millions of years old. Vermited snails can come on snails, frags, and such.

Was a little shocked at the observation/ accusation myself lol...I know the 'Life Rock ' of their brand is seeded with bacteria etc, but vermitids????

Unless the life rock was already used in another tank? If it was brand new the snails did not originate from it.
Its the only thing I added to the tank that was new, everything else originated from my 125 which is vermitid free. Even got a barnicle or something of that sort that appeared after o got the rock, just know its some mollusk

Only other thought is they were just dormant until food increased from phyto dosing/filter feeder dosing.

I never used this tool but my friend just told me insert the needle probe into the tube of the vermitid, push down....and give it a vigourous twist...this destroys the snail down to the base...then simply twist again, and then perhaps give a few scrapes...the snail ceases to exist.

Sorry to hijack the thread but is this a giant vermilid

The reason for using live rock is the pest free advantage .
It’s dry , on a shelf and most likely has never been exposed to saltwater .
There is no way it can carry pests from a shelf to the tank

To be clear....this was store bought rock off the shelf? Or was in another tank even briefly?
