I know the versa isn't out there yet but reefbuilders posted a nice video on it's parts/assembly.

Do you guys think it will have a longer life than the dos, from what you can tell is this a more durable pump?

Looks like it should be more robust to me, and more importantly, QUIET!

I'm also pretty interested in this. To be honest, from the video I wasn't super impressed with their facilities or manufacturing processes. It also looks like they're trying to reinvent the wheel, so I'll definitely wait a while before buying one to see how they hold up.

That being said, I love their form factor and how they're independently controlled. I honestly don't believe they'll only be $150 a piece, but if they are they'll be a knockout.

Based on the article, it seems to require their new Mobius controller to operate. Now will the Mobius be a relatively inexpensive controller hub similar to and replacing the ReefLink? Or will it be a more robust controller package that has been rumored for years to be a competitor to the Apex? How much will the Mobius cost? These are the questions that remain.

based off the couple articles I’ve read, im lead to believe that it’s more to replace the reef link than a full blown controller.that’s just my guess and I could very well be wrong, but to me, it doesn’t make much sense for them to make a whole full controller rather than focusing on the single products that they do (and do well).
One of the biggest complaints I still hear about Ecotech products is how terrible the reef link works so for them to update and fix that makes a lot of sense to me, especially when adding into the ability to control their other new products like the Vectras and now the versa as well.

It would make sense from a marketing perspective to try and keep them at $150.
Arguably the biggest thing people are comparing them to, like in this thread, would be a apex dos which is 2 pumps and at 300 retail, so keeping it at 150 gives an equal price and you Get a “better” product (as to be seen, but that’s how it’ll probably be marketed)

Hard to tell from a video. Maybe more reliable, maybe less.

What failed to impress you? Looked like most small company, electronics assembly facilities I've seen - plus Tim did say that they haven't ramped up production yet. It's never going to look like an automotive production line. They may have designed the motor, but I doubt its actually made there.

I guess it was the size and lack of orderliness although I may just be unfairly comparing it to larger manufacturing facilities that I've visited. I was expecting a little more from Ecotech, but if their products preform it doesn't matter.

Having worked with dosing pumps for a living. These are two different types of pumps. The Dos is really to big a pump to do very small doses of liquid. The size of the drops are big Compared to the line used in the Versa and other small peristaltic pumps.

Having been playing with the Versa for a few weeks now, it isn't worth comparing it to the DOS. When I look at the DOS I see an off the shelf pump encased in plastic that was outfitted with a driver to interact with the Apex. Outside of designing the casing there wasn't much thought that went into it.

I'd give you that the Versa is a unique design, form did not follow function. There is an aspect of outside the box thinking in its design, almost an artistic quality to it. The gear reduction (planetary gear design) is definitely unique and in my mind should have been more on display rather than covered up.

It's true that the software that is in the Mobius goes above and beyond as well. About a year ago, I set out to design a peristaltic pump that would embody everything that a pump should have for hobbyist (I documented it here in the DIY forum). Their team of software developers not only covered what I felt was necessary but added other features that I didn't even consider.

I watched the reef builders video, I'll have to go back and watch it again, didn't notice their manufacturing process, I just remember it being filmed in what appeared to be their machine shop, probably where most of the prototypes get made.

Exactly right, you will need the Mobius to control the Versa. And from what I understand, that app will be a free download. I can't see why they would charge for it. That being said, the latest beta update that they pushed seems like it is ready for public use..... It wont be long now...I can't wait. I want at least 3 of the Versa's.... tic toc Ecotech!!!!!
