so I got the vertex skimmer 180i when it came out and has worked very well. Recently I was doing a water change and turned it off and now it does not work. I have cleaned it and soaked in vinegar and nothing. I reached out to bulk reef supply see what they say. They gave me a vertex phone number and no answer. Can I use another type of pump or basically I need to buy a new skimmer. Been out of warranty for years. Anyone have any experience with vertex pump replacement?

Do you need a new impeller. Have you removed the impeller lately? The pump and the impeller is a very strong bond and if you try to remove the impeller the you will loosen the glue on the shaft and the impeller causing the impeller to free spin or not really spend at all. After this happing to me I would never remove the impeller, I would just soak it and run the pump in a vinegar mix. Do you have a back up skimmer?

With me I found every time I shut the pump off to clean it would Not start up. I take out the impeller and find the O ring is off the little groove it sits inside. I pop it back on and put impeller back and it works perfect until the next time I shut it off. Been this way for 2 years so I limit the times I turn off or I just take apart fix O ring and it’s good to go. Might be worth a shot for you to try it.
