will a vertex alpha 250 cone be a good choice for a 150 cube? the tank is going to be primarily sps and a relatively large fish population.

I like that combo, I run a 300 on my 225 and its been great.

thx for the reply, i got a great deal on it, i just didn't want it to be overkill as i have done that in the past

It probably is a little but with a big fish load its good to have a little bigger skimmer for the extra oxygen production as well as the nutrient export. Mines overkill as well but not to the point where it quits working like some skimmers do.

How big is too big when it comes to a skimmer?

I think you would get a whole bunch of mixed opinions on that question. IMO, it depends on the tank(stocking levels and other forms of nutrient export) and the actual skimmer. Many would also argue the waste of power usage.

I ran an Alpha 200 on the exact same tank, same live stocks and it pulled out some nasty stuffs. I am sure the alpha 250 would do better job for your tank.

I'm running an alpha 250 on my 150gal. It's also has a huge bioload so that's why I went with it
