Vertex Cerebra Forum

I have had mine for two weeks today. When I registered there were only 5 or so registered users. I got personal phone calls on any questions I had from Adam @ warranty/support with my first question and still do as of yesterday. I had a problem with a corrupted sd micro card and also a temp probe. I had new ones the next day, they ship from Hunting Beach,CA. which is very close by. Some of the setup icons are not easy for me to figure out but now that I have been 'seeing' how the developer thinks/explains the setup, I get it.
Requests and ideas are submitted to the forum, which seems to be hosted in Canada and then the data is forwarded to Germany. They are having a quarterly membership prize that will be announced next month. This should be fun and with a smaller group I have a better chance at it. This is a nice feature of being a beta tester.

Micro SD card? Is this a built in card, if so where is it located.
My controller came with a 6 page manual 2 of these pages are duplicates. Should this have shipped with a more comprehensive manual?
At this point I'm hoping the forum will provide some of the more basic functions.
This is my first controller and very much look forward to using it.

I'm sure when the controller gets out of beta, there will actually be an instruction manual. For now, hit up the cerebra forum and you'll pick up very quickly how to do everything.

You can see the SD card in the top right of the picture.

Your fortunate to have the manual, my lfs forgot to give it to me. There are "how to" video's on how to flash the sd card, if needed, and how to do updates. These have just been recently implemented. It is very easy to remove both end caps on the display with the wrench provided.

They are still migrating the cloud platform to Amazon servers. The hope is the end of this week it'll be online. For now, go to the link I referenced in the last post for access to the Cerebra forum. Use your serial number on the back of your box for registration.

Still waiting for mine to show up. Is cloud access usable yet.

Not yet last I checked but it isn't on my priority list right now since it's just running my frag tank. I'm not up to date on the improvements and ongoings right now with the Cerebra.

I am curious as i just purchased a GHL Mitras LX 6200 if anyone thinks id be able to run the usb to the Cerebra and then remote into the Cerebra to control the Mitras from my laptop or phone?

You definitely will not be able to program the Mitra's or control them through the Cerebra. The USB connection will only work for programming, control and firmware updates when connected to a PC using the GHL GCC control software. Alternatively, the Mitra's can be programmed and controlled via the Profilux.

Just get a profilux you would be getting a more mature controller. With tons more features.

Most controller vendors do this nothing special about that

We're obviously discussing the cerebra forum here and pointing those looking for answers in the right direction. I don't understand the nature of your posts in this thread. Are you just trolling those who are testing out the cerebra?

FWIW, I have two Apexs at home. I'm not a Vertex fanboy or an Apex fanboy, just someone willing to try out a new controller and see if it's a general improvement over existing controllers. With that takes time for improvement with a new product in a new sector of the industry. I don't understand the need for your posts in this thread. If the thread was titled, "best reef controller?", sure, go nuts.

I have had Apex's since they first came out and also Profilux. I was answering if you could control a GHL Mitras LX 6200 with a Cerebra and no you can not do that and I wouldn't look for it in the future either. We are moving away from a open past to a closed future. Just look at Ecotech L1 and M1 and other things in the future that come out.

I completely understand what you're saying was just thinking if you can use the cerebra as a "computer" to change settings via usb and you can remote into the cerebra it would be possible but if you can't use the cerebra like a computer than i see how it wouldn't work.

Well a Mitras LX 6200 has a key that is generated by the GHL software when you setup the remote software myGHL. This is a safety measure keep someone from remotely accessing your aquariums equipment. Each piece of equipment needs a driver just like a printer on your home computer. The aquarium computer manufacturers are moving to building their own equipment for their computers. We see something introduced all the time. Last week was the Pmup form Apex. Who knows what will come next.

So you say you were just answering someone's question about being able to use the Mitra on the Cerebra and you thought you answered it by saying this?

"Just get a Profilux you would be getting a more mature controller. With tons more features."

That's the equivalent of someone asking how to update their wireless drivers on Windows and someone answering them with just buy a MacBook. Seem odd of a answer?

How about these other posts in another Cerebra thread?
As I have read these threads about the Vertex Cerebra and the fevered response to the device. I wonder would you pay the full retail for the unit?
Would you be as excited about it that you would pay 700 dollars for the base unit?
Having kept aquariums for 53 years now I have seen many devices come and go. Many have used this low price to get people to buy their product.

So would you shell out the full retail for the device or would you be holding off to see how it pan's out?

Would you have bought it if it was just introduced without any Beta tag and was priced at 700 dollars? Apex and GHL always take suggestions on firmware updates. It may take a little while as the vet them but you usually see the suggestions if they do not cause issues.

Any agenda here Reefwiser? You seem to have a theme with your posts on the Cerebra.

If you are questioning to educate, then kudos to ferreting out information to keep your fellow hobbyists from wasting money their money. From the tone of the responses and questions, I don't believe this to be true but tone is obviously something that can't be picked up on the internet as well as in person.

Defiant Arms, just hop on the Cerebra forum when your unit comes in and one of the development crew at Vertex can answer you directly and try to help.
