Vertex Omega 150 vs Quantum NYOS 120

These are for a gallon DT with a 30 gallon sump. I want something solid and quiet. Any opinions or experience with these brands?

Also, when's MACNA? Are new versions going to be offered by these brands?

I went with the nyos, I tried to use a vertex 130 but I constantly had to adjust it. The nyos is set it and forget it.

How quiet are the NYOS system compared to the Vertex?

Both of them were really quiet, some other equipment was always louder than it. The lid on the nyos can make noise(rattle) since it's just sitting on top of the collection cup.

The build quality on the vertex is better than the nyos, all of the acrylic is thicker and feels like it's stronger. Unlike the nyos, the vertex has a screw on collection cup - the nyos is just locking. But the quality means nothing when it's so difficult to adjust, which is where the nyos is much better.

Also, the footprint of the nyos is smaller.

The Vertex 150 is by far the best Skimmer in my opinion and experience, just set it and forget it!!! The quality materials and craftsmanship is second to none (thick acrylic and Sicce pump). Agree with @mb165 about the vertex 130, its a pain, set it everyday. But the 150 its a big time winner.

i haven't used a nyos but my vertex 150 is great and is very set and forget, even in a temporary holding tank which is being manually topped off and fluctuates around 1/4" or so a day.

Aqua Max is not only set and forget it is silent with a sicce pump putting out coffee black skim. I feed my fish 3 times a day no worries.

im guessing you have used all three on your system, to state that as fact??

im not buying it though, id be hard pressed to put an AM above/past a vertex150.

Do the research check the reviews I looked at the vertex and the octopus and reviews pointed me to this and I am not dissapointed I have 6 fish worth over 1 k all together I would not trust them to anything else. I have a aqua c ev 120 in the garage if anyone needs one.

I'm in the same boat with @mb165 i started with a vertex, amazing build quality, study as a tank, hands down a great skimmer but the NYOS... holy smokes is it quiet! my tank sits 8 foot from my recliner and I'm a HUGE believer of it being that close so it should be SEEN and not heard. and don't for a second think that the NYOS can't pull gunk, wet or dry its a solid workhorse. you won't be disappointed in either, but if quiet is your endgame, don't make 2 buys, go straight to the NYOS. and that guy Ken at saltwateraquarium.com is a great guy to buy from!

Vertex 150 is too big for that tank.
Vertex 130 is a horrible skimmer unless you put a air valve on the air intake which makes it a pretty good skimmer. Without the air valve to restrict some air it constantly over flows.

Aquamaxx CO-1 is extremely cheaply built but skimms like crazy for anything under 75 gallon. I would put 75 gallons at the top for it so you are at the top of what it can handle. Medium load at your size aquarium this skimmer is perfect.

The RLLS db6i would be aswume too if you can find it. I have the RLSS r6-i which is a incredible skimmer . The new DB series is supposed to be even better so you might even get away with the db5i Depending on load.

The Nyos 120 would be perfect size but there is not allot of info and what I have seen has been mixed.

Look at Deltec now that Adam at battle corals has the line. I am not familiar with their new line yet so I can not suggest a model but deltec skimm very well. I put Deltec up their with the big boys in performance like ATB. You can never go wrong with Deltec. Even their old skimmer beat most new skimmers on the market.
