Just got the new 150 yesterday and wanted to share some pics with you.
This was the first thing I was impressed with. The box and packaging was over the top.
The next cool thing was the instruction manual.
I am not used to getting this type of booklet with reef equipment very very nice! As I dove into setup I came across one tricky point and that was installing the red out pipe from the pump to the skimmer body.
After a few failed attempts I noticed an unalignment of the holes. I was able to over come this by loosening the bubble plate and realigning the two holes. after that it was smooth sailing to completion.
. During assembly I got a chance to see all of the parts and it appears that there are no noticeable short comings. All the parts seemed to be at a comercial level. After installing the skimmer and running it for 12 hours now I can say this for sure. It's really quiet and makes a serious foam column. I am running the skimmer in about 9 inches of water with the pipe wide open and seem to be getting a nice balanced skimate not to wet or to dry. I did notice that lowering the sump level 1" increased the bubble column height a lot. I would bet that at 7.5" and the flow valve opened all the way that you could collect some very dry skimate.
In conclusion, the Vertex Omega 150 is built with very nice material has a very quiet pump that is performing excellently. I expect to get a high performance to investment ratio with this skimmer.
