Is anyone using this and wondering why the sudden price jump on MDepot? i bought mine end of may and my TDS is now reading 01-02ppm. incoming is 276 approx and i have only made at most 200gals. I'm thinking this is too soon for the filters to be going bad.

What is the RO only TDS? You may also have dissolved CO2 in your tap water which will depete DI quickly. RC has some articles on how to test for CO2 in tap water.

i think there is also a way to recharge the DI so that i can get back to zero. I wonder what is "acceptable TDS" before i get around to do this.

there is a thread about recharging DI resin on reefcentral i looked at it but it seems like it is more trouble then it is worth to recharge it

It is nowadays. Back when I first started, a DI filter was in two parts and the refills were about $75 ea. so it was worth recharging.

I think maybe you should contact the manufacturer and ask them what is happening. 200 gallons is way to low IMO. Maybe the membrane failed and the DI was doing all the work. If so, I can see it failing in 200 gallons.

The RO only TDS number is needed to trouble shoot the membrane, without that number you are just guessing. I don't know what they use for membranes but it should be at least 96-98% efficient so RO only should be in the 5-10 TDS range. I would expect you would see at least 300-500 gallons per DI at that rate if you do not have CO2 problems.

When I was using a normal RO/DI system with bulk resin refills I would get 150 gallons per DI cartridge before it would jump to around 2 TDS. Thats with a tap water that was just over 800 TDS and a Dow Filmtec 75GPD membrane which was giving me a RO only TDS of about 13. I do have CO2 problems which is why the DI di not last very long.

It all revolves around the RO membrane and how well it is performing.

Recharging DI is not worth the hazards. It involves acid and lye and I don'r want to keep those things around if I don't have to. Recharging yourself will also never get it back to 100% strength plus you have to keep seperate cation and anion resin cartridges as they each recharge differently.

Unfortunately they defer their support to the retailers. I bought it at marine depot so not too worried about it but do agree that it seems short for the TDS to be creeping up.

Since this is my first RO with a DI, where do you buy your filters and resin???

Cheers!

AZ's advice is good here. If you want to see if your DI depleated too quickly - begin by checking the TDS in your RO water. If that is higher than it should be, the root of the problem is something associated with the RO membrane.
