Unfortunate, especially on a $400 pump.

I buy Jebao return pumps- cheap enough at <$100, and seem to last a few years.

actually, it was on sale when i purchased it from premiumaquatics ($199) .... overall, i really love the pump b/c it's very quiet.... just emailed vertex, hopefully they stand behind their product.
