Just mixed my very 1st batch of saltwater, following manufacturer instructions. Is 32.8ppt a good/ok salinity? I was shooting for 35, per saltwateraquarium.com videos I've watched, but I've also read not to chase numbers too much and that 32-33 is good for a reef tank. Thanks

Welcome to R2R! 32.8 depended on water temp equates to around 1.024 sg which is fine. Most reefers keep salinity between 1.023 and 1.026

I'm hearing from most that I should bump it up a little, so I'll do that. Thank you
You bet :) I will say most shoot for 1.026 or 35 ppt, but stability is the key. A reef tank that's been run at 1.024 can be just as successful as one ran at 1.026 :)

Thank you all for the support. In my profession I am usually the one answering the questions. This is new to me but very welcome and appreciated.

Any questions are welcome! Glad you joined us! :)

Welcome to R2R! Glad to have you with us. I usually mix my salt a little light initially, and add enough salt to get it where I want it (but I'm mixing 55 gallons at a time). It takes more time, but it's always spot on. If you're using a hydrometer to test SG, I would suggest investing in a refractometer. It just seems more accurate, and is calibratible. So... lets see that tank!

The tank is on order, pictures soon. I built the mixing station 1st. Rock is on the way (should be here Thursday) so I can start curing it. I'm big on infrastructure and want to make sure I'm doing everything to the best of my ability to keep all the inhabitants safe. I know there will be challenges but I want to give everything and myself a fighting chance by taking it slow.

Took me a year to plan and build my current system. I hear ya!
