Very curious…

Hi everyone!

I’ve got a 125g mixed reef, mostly softies, LPS, euphyllia… noticed this tonight and took a photo. Any ideas? Some of my palys are obviously not thrilled, except for a couple - not sure if it’s due to feeding time or this growth…should I remove? My gut says no and to continue to observe but would like some input.

That is a sponge and unfortunately will certainly choke out your palys if you don't remove.

That white growth looks like some kind of sponge. It will smother the Zoas. you should take the whole rock out, scrub it with tooth brush while cleaning it with tank water…

Unfortunately can’t pull this whole rock, it’s part of a large structural support for the rest of the rock scape. Will have to try my best without removing. Thanks!

We all once loved our palys... I would let nature take its course and see what happens... I'll bet that you still have palys in the end.

That’s kind of the approach I’m leaning towards. They are giving me Xenia vibes, I’m sure the palys will prevail, LOL.

to mess with unknown palys for fear of palytoxin , or to poke at sponge knowing it can also be toxin . ….

Yes, be really careful messing with those palys. You should wear full sleeve gloves with those guys...
