Hi. I had issues with ich with my fish only system and tore it down and restarted. Bleached everything and upgraded to a larger tank that is cyclicality now using red see reef mature. I have all my fish in 4 different qt tanks in my basement and I am getting very frustrated with the progress. Ich is gone 100% and all fish are eating the problem is they got fin rot . They were not in therapeutic levels of copper for 14 days yet. The fin rot was getting very bad so I did a 80% water change and started using kanaplex.(did the 1st dose right now) i did not test to see if all the copper was out before dosing kanaplex. Is that dangerous for the fish in there?
2nd question is, my display tank is going to be fish only (I might go in to coral at a later date ) is it advisable to dose copper in main system?
I'm so frustrated with this hobby I invested thousands and thousands of dollars , countless hours and I cant get it right......

I can’t speak for using Kanaplex with copper but using copper in DT that is fish only can be done. Just remember any sand or rock you have in there will absorb copper and become useless in the future. They will leech copper in the future potentially affecting inverts, etc.

Don't dose copper in your display. You will regret it later. Test the water the fish are in now for ammoia.

What do you have them in and what is the filtration? What fish?

If there's ammonia in the water, then do two large water changes as quickly as possible. Make sure you bring the copper level up in the new salt water. Get some bio spira and dose the water with bio spira to get bacteria going.

If you have ammonia, methylene blue dips would be beneficial.

@HotRocks (who is one of our resident qt experts) will dose antibiotics like kanaplex with copper in qt if bacterial infection occurs, see the first Post of this thread.
I would make sure you have plenty of surface agitation (powerhead poibted to the surface) to help with oxygen in the qt.

We’ve all been there - the good news is you’re treating your fish and on the road to a healthier tank. But this part is very hard
