Hello, So I just recieved my first refractometer today and tested it out in my tank and found out my tank is over 1.033 salinity. Worst of all I just added a new Flame hawkfish into the tank today aswell. All the fish seem to be doing fine including the Hawkfish. My tank does suffer from high evaporation where I try to regularly top off with saltwater which is my mistake after some research. LFS told me to slowly do water changes with ro/di over time and it will eventually go down. Any other tips yall recommend me trying?

Well you solved one issue, never top off with salt water and that’s what caused your high salinity..water evaporation does not deplete your salinty..you could add rodi water to the tank and water changes with a lower salinity mix will help..go slow

The advice your LFS gave you is good.....just lower it to 1.026 over a couple days and you'll be fine. What you have now isn't so high, so don't worry too much about it. Nothing good happens fast in an aquarium, so just bring it down slowly......a day or two is fine for this amount of adjustment.

Did you name your flame hawk yet? I love that fish:)

Probably not gonna be popular but personally I just go all out and correct it. So far I've been lucky enough that things go smooth. Pretty much again just for me ( i don't represent the community) I've been on just about every extreme and went with instant fixes with 100% survival. But the biggest thing is double check your numbers before you do anything.
