Hey y’all! So, I’ve gotten pretty comfortable with my tank and I think it’s time for a (or a couple) new additions! It’s a 20 gallon IM peninsula tank and I’ve already got a pair of 1-2 in clowns, a fire, and a sexy shrimp plus CUC. Anybody have fish or really cool inverts that would go in here? And please please tell me if what you suggest needs a lid/sand, I love my animals and want to make sure they have everything they need. Thanks for reading!

For tanks of that size, I'm a big fan of clown gobies, sexy shrimp (which you already have), Clown Porcelain Crab (kind that hosts anemones/coral), and white spot anemone shrimp

Thanks! I was kinda scared to get another fish because I got a ruby red dragonet and the LFS had them in a rimless frag tank and swore up and down they weren’t jumpers and had been in there for months.... jumped 2 days after I bought it

For a lid, does super fine mesh work? Since my tank is all in one it’s a real pain to find/buy a hard lid that fits right.

Bump... are there any reef safe wrasses that would be good for a tank this size? And are there other cardinal fish than the banggai and PJ? The PJ’s red eyes kinda freak me out a little bit sorry but I love the body shape

Probably a no on a wrasse that would be ok in a 20 gallon. Firefish might be good but you would 100% need a lid with them.

All fish have the potential to jump, so getting a fine mesh lid, as you suggested would be good.
Eviota, trimma, priolepsis gobies are all interesting additions.
If you want a wrasse, a possum wrasse may work

A small blenny would be a cool addition. I have a bicolor blenny in my IM Nuvo 40, but a tailspot might work well in your tank. Blennies have amazing personalities.

As far as cool inverts, I love my feather duster and coco worm. A pom pom crab could also be a good fit for your tank size. They tend to hide in the rockwork a lot, but it's a treat when you do get to see them.

I would stay with gobies. Fun to watch and stay small.

how about a cleaner shrimp. Always out in the open and always willing to give you a manicure when you put your hands in the tank

I currently have this same tank, Innovative marine sells a screen for this tank on their website. The blue neon Goby is an awesome little fish and they actually have captive bred ones on Live Aquaria and Saltwaterfish.com A small goby/pistol shrimp would work as well. :)

Thanks everyone for your input! I’ll see about that lid from IM, might just DIY one using their design/ dimensions so it matches my stand better. The blennies and gobies are definitely on my list. Firefish are kind of meh IMO but the purple ones are really cool. I feel like a need a rockhopper/middle water fish cause my clowns refuse to leave their power head and I want some more movement so I think the wrasse are where I’m gonna find a winner.
