hello everyone I’m jason. I am just now getting into saltwater and reef aquariums. So far all I have is a 40 breeder tank. I am currently looking into everything else I need to get it going without blowing my wallet. I do understand not going but so cheap because then you lose quality. I am looking for any learning tips tricks and advice everyone has to offer.

Welcome, a lot of it depends on what you are looking for. You can make the venture into saltwater relatively simple and reasonably priced (ie Fish Only With Live Rock aka FOWLR) or you can seek the full reef experience with corals (which will add a considerable cost between a decent coral population and the lighting required to keep them happy). A lot of it just depends on you and what you want. A 40 Breeder is a decent start up and has arguably the best dimensions for a tank of it's size. The tank is too small for a number of fish, but there is still a fairly wide variety of what you can put in there.

These are the products I’m planning on purchasing. Still don’t know about testin kits

I've found the keys to this hobby to be as follows..

1. patience
2. research
3. stability
4. patience
5. patience

When I (and I'm sure most of us) started out, I was incredibly impulsive and dropped a ton of cheddar trying to have a beautiful tank overnight. I knew nothing about husbandry and tried to take shortcuts every step of the way in order to buy the fish I wanted when I wanted them. I bought crap equipment after crap equipment until I finally learned to slow down, do some research, and ask questions to those with more experience than me. The reef scene is MUCH larger than it was back in the early 2000s, so thankfully, there's a wealth of knowledge and experience online these days. I'd highly recommend taking advantage of it and learning from other people's mistakes instead of your own. Welcome and good luck!

Welcome to R2R Jason!

Just ask any questions you want on here and if your unsure of what to purchase just ask and the people on R2R will give you their opinions. This is by far the most friendly reefing site on the web.
