I have some very stubborn turf algae. It won’t come off with a toothbrush or when I pull it up with my thumb and suction it out. I’ve been very diligent about keeping my nutrients within acceptable parameters but won’t seem to go away.

I’ve recently added 2 turbo snails and 20 blue leg hermits. They’ve done a fair bit of work in cleaning up but it’s not making much progress after a few weeks.

Could I dose reef flux to attempt to weaken it or should I go for vibrant/algaefix? Are these options safe for my inverts to include an RBTA?

Flux Rx has been my preferred tough algae treatment, it seems to have a minimal effect on most things and works on bryopsis as well, which I think may constitute a number of difficult "turf algae" ids. Sea urchins, hares, or lettuce nudis can also be biological options (that don't need a big tank like tangs) if you don't want to try the medicating route yet.

Current tank is a 40GAL breeder. I have a pincushion urchin but it isn’t really interested in it, spend most of its time cruising the glass instead or rocks. I’ll look into the other biological options. Do I have to do anything special to use reef flux?

Emerald crab has been known to munch on it, a primary predator would be a lettuce nudibranch.
