VHO vs T5s

Im upgrading from a 75g to a 120g.

The tank comes with built in two 250watt MH on magnetic ballasts & 3x48" VHO on icecap 660.

I have a 48'' light unit from my 75g with two 250watt MH and four 54watt T5s.

Should i stick with his lights, or remove the hood and put my light unit on top.

My corals POP under my gisman actinic T5s, will VHOs do the same?

I find VHO actinics are a much stronger light than T5, maybe 2 or 3 T5 actinic = 1 VHO. That said, T5 give you many other choices, ATI Blue + for one which adds a nice blue look.

i run vho i like them way better than t5s.. i have tried both and love the vho's myself...uvl has actually came out with a 454 bulb i think it is, thats the same as a t5 blue+

T5s are nice and only use half the electrcity, but vhos got pop!!! And bring in blues better than any light I have ever saw...

+1 -VHOs are way nicer of an actinic versus T5.

I love MH + VHO as the best combo light around if you ask me.

I just switched to the 454 VHO actinic on my zoanthid tank and I love that color.
I'm going to try them on another tank that has the super actinic bulbs on it now.

Use the UV 454 VHO's and two Aqua Maxx 14k's . U'll love it . I love the look of the 454's . The t5 454 version does not look as good as the vho version .So the ATI blue plus wins hand down in the t5 version but ime it's hard to beat the 454 vho .

Ran into the same debate when setting up my new tank I went with the vho mh DE combo I'm running 4 36" 454 with 2 6' super actinics and phoenix 250w DE 14k bulbs the color is far superior to the same color set up with T5's

Wow thanks for the input guys....

This is the only thing, i moved all the livestock today to my LFS to hold it so i could move the tank. The corals under their T5s were insane glowing crazy colors and the clams were awesome.

At the guys house the corals were brown and yellow. The tank was nice and bright but even the RBTA were just red not that glowing ROSE color.

Does he need new bulbs maybe?
