So I had been using a ViaAqua titanium heater on my 75gallon tank. It has its own digital controller and it was working pretty well. Kept my tank quite stable.
I just setup my new Apex and decided that it wouldn't work well to use a heater with a built in controller like that so I setup the Apex heater outlet and plugged in a 300 watt ViaAqua quartz heater instead. I set the thermostat on the heater up as high as it would go and thought it would be good.
Interestingly enough, even when the temperature is below the Apex setpoint and the heater outlet is on, the heater will not stay on constantly. It turns itself off every once in awhile like it's hitting it's internal setpoint even though I have it cranked up. After a bit it will turn itself back on and slowly creep up the temperature but it's having trouble keeping the tank temp where I want it because it won't stay on long enough.
Anyone else had a problem with these heaters? Is the heater bad?
