Vibrant and SPS

Hello, I have a 10g sps tank and dose half the recommended amount of vibrant each week. I have been doing this for about 3 months now and have not noticed any decrease in growth or coloration, hope that helps!

I have tried it twice so far for 5 or 6 weeks each time and never seen any difference in the tank or the few bubble algae in it. I defiantly never saw any nutrient reduction either. Maybe I didn't do it long enough? How long did you guys have to dose to see nutrients drop?

I initially began using Vibrant due to a dyno outbreak not algae. My Nitrates are always between 3 to 5ppm so even without Vibrant I didnt have an algae issue so it may be a little different since I did not use it to lower nitrates. For me, 4 doses of 1ml/10g for 4 weeks in a row got rid of dynos and as I said before I now dose 0.5ml/10g weekly just to keep dynos as well as any other algae from even starting to grow.

I have never had to deal with bubble algae so I can't speak much on the topic but I would try to do water changes to lower nitrates and use WC as the method to keep nitrates in check and then use Vibrant to keep the algae from growing. Hopefully that helps you out, if you have any other questions let me know!

It took me multiple weeks to notices effects on bubble algae. I think the same for nitrate reduction.

Ah thanks, thats what I was figuring. If anyone has more detailed experience on when their nitrates dropped please share.

Dominick, I tried again for the second time because I keep seeing a few strands of green stuff that looks like dinos in a few spots in the tank an I don't want it to start irritating the acros. I used the same dose as you and never noticed anything different. Even the fuzzy algae growing on the side walls thats normal stuff wasn't phased. I kinda gave up, unless someone has a little more detailed experience on when their nitrates started falling. I don't want to hurt the corals in my system with a sudden and low nitrate drop. I am not worried about my nutrients right now that isn't really my goal either, just want to be careful. I will probably go back to dosing vinegar and vodka to maintain the tank like I had been for a long time. My system ran much better then.

I had RTN on a bunch of Acros after using it, but it was my own fault. As other stated, it bottoms our your nutrients.........they recommended to me to dose nitrates while using Vibrant, which I wasn't doing. That said, it did wipe out my Gorgonians in another tank (3 separate, healthy colonies). Not sure if they are sensitive to Vibrant or if it was just bad luck.

If it’s causing nutrients to go dangerously low and killings things as a result then the manufacturer should be warning people. This stuff is probably some form if carbon, phosphorous or nitrogen dosing.

I would dose phosphates. You can make up a mix with trisodium phosphate and ro/di water. Or buy a ready to go phosphate additive. Like Brightwell Neophos. Trisodium phosphate is readily available on Amazon. I use the Loudwolf brand, if you do decide to make a solution.
I suggest not doing so and not messing with bacterial populations. Feed more, get more fish, or both.

Edit: Just realized these are old posts...
