Vibrant experiment

Sorry for the losses :(
It does say there's vinegar in there, so I bet it's just a diy carbon dose, the aspartic acid is the excess nitrate, and you're introducing bacteria as well. But I don't think I would dose a carbon source a couple times a week. You're just introducing bacteria, their food source, and then the remainder of the week the bacteria die?

The remainder of the week theyre supposed to eat your algae...whatever you have in there = laymen terms.

Im waiting for the I cycled my tank with vibrant thread.

You can stop waiting... I've already answered a thread along those lines. Someone was told to cycle their tank using a "bacteria in a bottle" product. They asked if Vibrant would work.... ugh... :(

yup. thus my displeasure with the product. a handy tool but....

I have dosed Vibrant 4 times in two weeks. My scooter dragon died yesterday. He wasted away before my eyes. I don't believe Vibrant had anything to do with the death, but I did want to put it out here.
He was an ORA scooter and would eat anything that hit the sand. Pellets, flakes, mysis, bs.

Oh I'm so sorry! I wasn't too tore up about the fish tbh. They were going back for store credit because I wanted something else but still.
You may not think it was a direct cause...I sure didn't think 5 steps out when I started it. Kinda salty about the frags though.

I started this thread to explore the magical powers of vibrant. I had never read a negative comment, other than cyano. And that's easily curable. I just want it out there so anyone wanting to try it has all the info.

I'm on my 3rd week only dosing 2.5mL once a week. Water clarity is very clear but I did notice a small red/green cyano outbreak on my sandbed. My corals do look very happy with great PE.

Fish and invert death has been consistently reported although limited.. On difficulty is a manufacturer does not know what kind of algae is in the tank. some are quite toxic. Some, like dictyota, are relly potent.

Lots of talk about having to dose KNO3 if you even THINK about dosing this twice per week. I've been dosing twice weekly and my nitrates doubled while dinos and other algae weakens. I'm sure if you dose the stuff twice a week on a clean tank you'd have other issues, but they really only say to dose it this often for active "serious" things (like dinos).

I think if you just use your head while dosing the stuff you'll be fine. Plenty of people have had success.

Safe to say a large portion could be attributed to toxic dino die off.

I agree. I just wish I had thought more about after effects rather than just using it. Plus I thought my system would be able to handle it.

quite possibly yes.

Thats why is nice to have a lot of folks to talk to and see experiments from. losing stuff does suk though.

Its leading me to wonder if good recommendations would be to run aggressive carbon during treatment. Many common algae can be toxic. with some of the noted sanil losses Is hard to surmise if its waterborne toxins or the decomposing algaes being ingested. as the snails should be ok in processing the toxins as its part of the diet.

This is what can´t understand - maybe I´m a dumb Swedish chef - but they live for 36 - 48 hour (it means that they must die or be inactive after this time) - the rest 5 Days they consume algae and nutrients ?

Sincerely Lasse

wait a second. The "critters" in vibrant only live for 48 hours?!
I thought a lifespan would be much greater than that...

There is a blend of critters in Vibrant. Some of the critters, specifically the ones consuming nitrates, only seem to stay active for 36-72 hours. I "believe" the algae consuming critters live longer but even they can't last for too long.

I really need to get a nice microscope......
