Hi,

As the thread name goes, I'm a new tank owner (reefer350) for 6 weeks or so now and my Skimmers noise is getting more annoying as time goes on..

Its a Deltec 600ix. Its not touching any of the sides or anything and I tried repositioning it lots of ways, but its a vibration noise I cant get rid of..

I've noticed if I place my hand on the cup and push down a bit, that vibration noise goes away. But then slowly returns after my hand releases..

So is there no way of getting rid of this noise other than leaving something heavy on the skimmer cup? Seems a bad design flaw for a high rated skimmer..!

anyone with this model come across this?

You could put a dampening pad under the skimmer, if it’s vibrating against the aquarium bottom. That’s what a lot of people do for pumps.

Have the same problem only I have the 600i. I actually found that if I put a finger over one of the holes in the lid that stoped the noise rather than the downward pressure.

My tank is still very new (about same age as yours) so was thinking as I get some bio load and something decent to skim this might calm down a bit as the bubbles wouldn’t be erupting so violently.

I’ve also come to realise that people who claim things to be ‘dead silent’ in this hobby are most probably deaf.

ok thanks, something like this maybe would work then, if I cut it to size..

It is annoying even more so because its the only piece of equipment I have that creates any noise. Everything else is dead silent, but the humm of the skimmer would drive you mad!

Well I wish it was the only thing I could hear. Between the cacophony of noise of my return pump and lights (both expensive and bought for their ‘silence’), the skimmer fades into the background.

So I suppose I’ve become jaded and just expect noise from another expensive ‘silent’ product.

I've an ecotech S2 which is actually dead silent, along with Red Sea LEDs, no complaints there, for what its worth.

M2 and 2 G5 XR15s. Whining pump and lights fan noise means I can hear the tank from 20 feet away easy!

Have you tried just putting a finger over one of the holes in the lid. Does that kill the noise for you? Was thinking about plugging one of them. Alternatively putting some sort of reef safe grease around where the lid meets the cup to deaden the vibration there.

When I plug those holes the water starts to rise up, so they must be needed.
The grease is a good idea, I'll try that later thanks.

Just in case someone stumbles on this in the future. I managed to solve it today.

So I ordered 4 anti vibration pads from the US on Ebay (link below) , this guy delivered to Ireland. Then I slotted them together using small pieces of wooden skewers, to make one large square piece. This fit in the bottom of the skimmer section of the sump and matched perfectly the base of the skimmer.

Early days, but no more vibration noise..!:)

thanks for the help
