I just watched from beginning to end, mostly to see if as much came out of your sand as mine. Could not find on YouTube to comment. Was going to honor your glass if won with Appleton Estate 12 year.
If it was six months or less, I'd say just use it. But at a year, you'd better save a few cups of livesand (from the upper layer) in a ziplock bag. Rinse out all the sand, put it in the new tank, then add some saltwater and then pour the livesand from the baggie onto the substrate so it can migrate into the clean sand. Hills are fine, you want the bacteria and bugs to get into the sand, not blow around the tank and possibly be filtered out.So I'm upgrading tank in almost a year old. I'm almlst doubling system volume going from a 120 to a 210. I'm guessing killing all the livestock in the sand isn't a big issue? I guess no worse than starting again with new.
A couple of people suggested rinsing via fabric, like pillow cases. That's interesting - I never would have thought of that.A little trick that might make this easier is to spread a sheet out over a couple saw horses or something and support the bottom with something that will drain off the water fill it with as much sand as you can fit and rinse as you did . this way you can do a lot more at once its up at standing height and you are done faster .
