does anyone know if I can clean my api test tubes in vinegar to clean them and also my sirenges ?
I use them to check my reef chemistry I am just scared it will throw off the readings if I clean them that way.
They are dirty and need cleaning thanks

Immediately following my test, I just rinse heavily with RODI, shake it out and then shove a lint-free tissue/wipe in and get the big drops out and let it air dry after that.

I don't know the specifics of the chemistry of test kits and what the outcome would be if mixed with vinegar.

Use ro/di water to clean the tubes and toss and buy new syringe on line. New syringes are cheap

I use Red Sea Pro kits mostly... You buy new seringe tips for the titration? I just rinse those well and then force the RODI out with the syringe 3 times... Is this not enough?

I have not been using the tips and a new syringe every time. My test have been more consistent sine I have been doing this. Even with my Hanna tests. Ca used to be all over the place and I stoped using the tips and just use a new 1cc syringe every time. I also us a new pipette tip every time also

I just got back to my house after 6 months and saw my wife had left them used with tests still in them. I cleaned them well but i see a bit of white in them I have cleaned tear tubes before but this ones are a bit hard to clean maybe leave them in rodi water all night ?

I think it would be fine would be fine to soak them in vinegar. The API tests could be done in a small glass as long as you had a way to measure 5ml of tank water to start.

@Randy Holmes-Farley would absolutely know the answer to this. I would ask a mod to move this thread to his forum, where you would get a ton more answers.

Although as others have said, syringes are cheap, I would just replace them, but I don't think you need to get a new one each time you test. Just keep them clean with RO after a test, and you should be golden.

As to the current test tubes, I would assume its safe to rinse it in vinegar as long as you very thoroughly rinse it with RO after. I think the test tubes are made of glass so that they dont absorb other items. But that is my hunch, and not a definite answer.
