Vinyl adhesive on Skimmer....reef safe?

I am getting tired of cleaning the inside of my skimmer due to the macroalgae build-up from my fuge light. Is it safe to apply a black vinyl adhesive to the outside of the skimmer?

I would just get a non adhesive vinyl and wrap it, or a make shift curtain to block the light from the fuge.
