Is this light a decent light for a Mixed reef 48x18 footprint tank.

Also is it worth hooking it up to a apex thru the break out box?

It has the built in timer but doesnt have the dimming feature. Is that more or less personal preference

That would work okay. Since you have a 4' tank, I would probably go with 2 of the 165 watt models for better coverage.

I can't help you with the Apex stuff. Yes, the ramping up and down is personal preference.
