Been searching this forum and having found a satisfying answer yet. I'm hoping someone here has experienced it at one point or is currently using this setup.

I have two 165 watt viper spectra over my 90g (currently have it set as 40%B for 10 hours, 1%W for 8 hours. (This setting may change as I just completed a new tank cycling) My LFS is trying to convince me to keep the Viper spectra and add 4 bulb ATI T5 HO. Their recommendation is to get 2 blue plus and two purple plus.

Well lucky I had two sets of T5 HO fixture sitting around and got extra blue plus bulbs minus the purple plus. The T5 does get rid of the shadowing and suppress the prism effect coloring from the LEDs. Looks nice on the eyes. (Plan to rent a par meter from my LFS as soon as I can)

I'm still for 8 T5 bulbs...but am trying something different out first. So far no corals in the tank yet except for one hammer coral which the previous owner glued down to a piece of rock. Adding the T5 did some positive effect of the hammer coral. It increased its bubbles. (Hope that's a good sign)

Now if it is - what should my setting be? (All light are hanging 8" to 10" above the waterline)
If it's not, - your opinion is welcomed.

What wattage is the ballast? Ati t5’s need VHO I believe to achieve their correct spectrum and intensity. 8-10inches sounds like a good height.
