Hi all new to this group looking for some advice I’ve got a viperspecter 300w reef led my issue is my blues look great but white channel is awful have any of you ever changed the whites for different colours are they easy to change and what colours would be ok I’ve got a600 ltr Fowler tank which is 30” deep has anyone got any video or advice and help greatly appreciated thanks karl

Hey karl welcome to the club! Changing out the bulbs requires some experience with soldering. Changing the lenses to achieve a wider or more narrow beam of light on the other hand is very easy

Hi Kenny thanks for reply I didn’t no you could change lenses for wider spread where could I get them if it’s not worth changing for other colours I might buy two t5 tubes and fix them to light the white on viperspecter looks rubbish I could turn them off altogether being a Fowler tank 30” deep any idea what colour t5 tubes would you have thanks again Karl

Wider spread is easy. Just pull the light apart and remove the round lenses altogether. They just twist off. But typically wider spread is for shallower tanks. That being said it's easy to remove and replace them, give it a shot!

Sorry I couldn't tell you the types of t5s you'd need, it's been a looooong time since I've use them

Wider spread is easy. Just pull the light apart and remove the round lenses altogether. They just twist off. But typically wider spread is for shallower tanks. That being said it's easy to remove and replace them, give it a shot!

I use two of 300 watt viparspectra on my 125 mixed reef and I really like them. What do you have your intensity set to for each channel? I leave my white channel at slightly less than half of my blue and I like the way it looks.

I'm curious also. I have a 300 and 165 and have essentially the same settings as Gtinnel (slightly more than half). If I were to guess the color temperature it looks somehwere between 12000K and 14000K. What specificely don't you like about the white channel? Are you running bllues and whites together or turning off the blues when the whites are on?

No I have blues on 10hrs and white on about 4 but the white always look yellow if I have them on to long algae starts to grow all parameters are spot on blues 40% whites 5%

Again, 2nding Gtinnel's question. Have you taken PAR readings? Your settings strike me as being too blue and I'm not surprised algae does well when you increase the whites. Your corals need to adjust their photobiology for white light which can take awhile depending on the coral. Until they do algae will be quick to take advantage of the conditions. You may have a few corals that do ok with just blue light but in the long run my guess is you're going to be frustrated with many of the corals lack of growth and appearance.

I may not have mentioned it’s a 30” deep Fowlr tank

So we're not worried about corals. In that case you're going to have green and brown algae growing on all your rock. So what exactly don't you like about the appearance of your tank with the white channel on?

If you have your blue channel on 40% AND your white channel on at 5% your tank shouldn't have any visible yellow to the light. I did my lights like that yesterday and it is very blue. I'm still not positive if you are leaving your blues on when you turn your whites on but if you aren't with just the white channel on it makes the tank look terrible. Maybe a picture could help clarify things.

Ya, I hear you. Viperspectra white is a bit too yellowish for me.
I turned their white channel off and just run Blue/Violet.

I added two Halos with their blues and their white channel is very nice IMO.

Add some T5 if you can would make a great light.
