My tank is 300 gallons. I have 4 Viperspectra lights across the top.
My issue is… I can not raise my lights any higher than 9” above the water. What do you suggest? Taking my tank down and cutting the stand is not an option with a 300 gallon tank.

There's room to raise them with a mod to how you have them hung. My 300 vipars are about 13.5" above water level. Or..you can take them apart and remove the lens covers. Drop thr lights lower as this will increase the blend and spread but drop par. So you have to crank the lights up if you go this route.

Fuethermore, depending on what coral you are going to keep, you can add some led bars to the front and back of the 165s. 4 165s aren't going to be a whole lot of light on a 300 gallon.

Can you explain the hanging mod more please.

Looks to be a good bit of open space above the lights. But, because you have the wires at such an angle they won't go up any more. Hang the wires going straight up instead. Looks like it would be able to be raised 4-5"

I will try that. Thank you.

These lights have burned my corals. They are very strong lights.
I run mine at 72% blue channel and run 1% white. The white only runs a couple hours. Yes..they are strong. Even stronger when you have hot spots from being hung so low because they don't blend.

The wire can not be shortened unless we cut it and some how reattach it safely. Any ideas?

My vipers don’t do the 1% The least they go is 10%. My lights are set at 70 blue 10 white. But my whites are on 9 hrs(with my blue) blue only 30 mins before and 30 mins after my whites turn on and off.

Ahh yes...the newer 165s. Well..the best option may just be taking them apart and removing the lenses. You could even lower them at that point. Or perhaps a diffuser may work. Taking them apart and removing the lenses isn't hard and there are videos as well.

Or..ordering somr 120⁰ lenses off of ebay and replacing the lenses that come with the vipars.

They are 9” above the water. I took out the lenses. Do you think that will help or should I raise them higher?

You won't need to raise them. You could probably lower them what kind of coral do ypu keep or plan to?
