Sad day today. Came home to Socrates the black and white clown dead in the bottom of the tank. The CUC was hard at work disposing of the body by the time I fished her out. Still missing the bumblebee goby as well. Assuming it may have met a similar fate. All other fish appear to be healthy and well at this time. Really bummed out and confused as to what may have happened.

Sorry to hear that dude, as to what may have happened… hard to say .. I’m sure you checked parameters but did you take a look at ammonia?

So I took a closer look at Plato (the orange clown) this afternoon and he has some marking on his skin that kind of looks like Brook (at least from what I’ve gathered from forum posts, pics, etc). Unfortunately I don’t have a QT tank at this time. A little out of sorts on what to do next. How likely is Brook to infect all the fish in the tank? I know it is called the clownfish disease. Are other fish more resistant? I read that formalin is reef safe. Might have to pick some up and just dose the tank.

If the symptoms are visible enough, you could post a short video. Brooklynella is REALLY difficult to treat in a reef tank.

One symptom that folks often miss because it starts off subtly is rapid breathing. Do you see that in any other fish?

The only fish that were rapid breathing were the clowns and both have passed as of today. The remaining fish show no signs of rapid breathing or skin markings at this time.

Hopefully, if it was Brook, it will be self-limiting and not spread. Don’t try adding any new clowns for awhile, and fully quarantining them would be a good idea.

Definitely going to hold off on any new additions for at least a few weeks if not months.

Everyday struggle… lol always something in this hobby… just trying to wait out this ugly phase in the new tank.. no I still haven’t been to premier… always something tanking up my free time.. but I will eventually..

Good luck with the uglies. Did you read Randy Holmes-Farley’s post about Vibrant?

I did, when I was starting my main display I used vibrant.. it did what I wanted it to but I think it lowered my nutrients to zero and then I got dinos… well at least I think that’s what happened.. lol but haven’t used it since.
