I have started dosing Vitamin C as of yesterday. I am only adding 1/4 teaspoon twice daily. Is this enough, not enough? Are there any corals that may have a negative reaction to this? I run GFO and carbon also. Do I still add the Microbelift Special Blend or not? All input, positive or negative will be very much appreciated!

There is a very large thread on Vitamin C dosing, in addition to some math on how to determine how much you need to dose. Don't have a link for it, it's around, though.

That seems like a heavy dose looking from the outside. What are you trying to accomplish with it?

Get better color on coral. Also, I have a new gold torch (3 weeks). It has three heads. One head disintegrated over night. It had brown goo on it which I sucked out with a turkey baster. I was afraid it was brown jelly. It hasn't spread to the surviving heads yet, but they aren't extending like they were. I read that Vitamin C could help. I'm not good at calculating dosages. I do have a 180 gallon tank.. doyou think 1/4 tsp is too much still?

Connie,

I don't know near enough about your tanks or corals to even try being definitive. I have 3 torches in a 45 cube (including a gold one a friend dropped off 7 months ago) and have not seen the dread brown jelly. A few corals have come and gone but the LPS seem to really like the low flow and moderate lighting on that tank.

My own experience has shown to tread lightly on dosing and back into water quality using changes and actually rotating salt brands. Sorry, mono brand salt guys, this works for me and my corals.

I think if you followed every Mfg'r suggestions on additives, you would end up with a Noxious tank full of chemicals and a thin wallet. :)
Are you real comfortable with the current parameters? Alk, Ca, Salinity, lighting, flow, etc? Vit C would be towards the end of my check list.

I wanted to add that I DO dose Vit C. I have NutriBiotic Buffered Sodium Ascorbate (Vitamin C) crystalline powder.
Comes in a 16 oz bottle. They claim there are no other ingredients and that its USP-FCC grade.

This stuff is added to my one weekly schedule though.

Thanks. My parameters are spot on and I change water weekly. Funny you mention rotating salts. I do that. We are in the minority ya know. I rotate one week Reef Crystals, the next week its Red Sea Coral Pro. Everything in my tank is fine except the gold torch. I have a green torch I've had for years that is fine, in fact everything in my tank is thriving. I got the very VC product you mentioned. I may try adding only once a week like you, and see if it makes any difference. Again, thanks for your input.

Right on.

Given that we are using the same stuff, I may not be convinced that twice daily is making a massive improvement. This conversation is happening on at least one other Web Forum as well. :)

If I see a coral stressing I will move it. Different flow/lighting sometimes makes all the difference. Of course, sometimes things just pass on despite our best efforts.

Please post back if you learn any wisdom. I'm all ears at this point especially since I have the supplement on hand and can use it anytime.
