Wow that is a nice setup, I was laughing to myself on your PH values. You got to love an Apex:)

What kind of heat do you have? I used run lower PH till I vented the air line for the protein skimmer outside. I also cook a lot at home and noted after running the stove and the oven all day my PH dropped (yes the stove is vented)
Having a CO2 build up can cause a swing like that. In Florida the house is closed up most of the year with the air running, that is why I vented the air line outside.

Wow Vlad! It's about time you got a build thread up. I'm looking forward to seeing some pics! Just ordered my tank yesterday, build thread is in my signature if your interested.

You actually reminded me of one item - Finnex 500W titanium heater heats the setup.

Heat in the house is forced air, burning heating oil. Stove is electric. We are on the tip of catskill mountain in NY, they don't run the gas lines up here as it's too expensive due to shifting bedrock, etc (not geologist, that's what I am told.)

I actually haven't cleaned/calibrated my probes in a while, so I am not too concerned with the readings. I am sure they are a little flaky and I need to do some maintenance on them soon. My ORP reading is 501, which shouldn't be possible. My bigger concern was Alk, RedSea test kit, got a reading of 6.1 on Monday. I figured my kit was old, cross checked with API - got 11 dKH. So ordered refill for RedSea, confirmed reading of 6.4. I am really starting to not like API kits, just wrong readings period. So I am attributing PH swings due to Alk, but still learning/monitoring it all.

Thanks Jesse. I know, I've been a lazy bumb! But finally getting to it.

Just saw your thread and realized I read it already a few weeks ago!! :)

I have the Finnex 300W and really like it.

I have propane, there is very little natural gas run in area.

I have the RS test kits also, and like them. You reminded me that I have to test today(thank you). I add a sump 3 weeks ago and I am running a Ball Method of dosing and I have to tweak in my dosing. Bake some baking soda off in the oven, and this will bring up your PH. be-careful it will also bring up Alk @Randy Holmes-Farley wrote about somewhere.

Some first shots.... Not my best work...

Heya Jesse. Lights are 12" over the tank, 13" over the water level. I am thinking of raising them higher though... get another inch of spread in the back and can run them with little more power.

How about an update Vlad! Do you get a lot of shadowing with the Orphek lights, or feel like the should be supplemented with T5 like a lot of other folks?

Hey Jesse. Haven't had the time to post updates, I am building a fish room in the basement and that's taking up all my free time.

On Orpheks, I don't think there's a lot of shadowing, they cover the space pretty well. I will try to get some close pics at different angles soon.
