looking into dosing vodka. so the question in do i run a fuge and gfo when i start dosing vodka
and whats the deal with the mb7 additive stuff?
any links or help ?
thanks jeremy

Don't take a shot before dosing the tank and all is well... I have been using vodka for years man and love everything about it... Mb7 is actually your nitrifying bacteria and vodka acts as a food source... You can keep your Gfo on for now but soon you won't need it... A fuge I never used but it will slowly deteriate if left..... Pretty painless to do and your corals will love it...;) check out the article in reefkeeping magazine it's the simplest and best to go off IMHO...

Been using vodka with mb7 for awhile now and loving it. Just watch your alkalinity, stay consistent with volume increase and nitrate levels. I just shut the skimmer off for an hour or two when I dose mb7. GFO should be fine. It usually takes about a month or so before you really start seeing the effects.

DON'T start vodka dosing until you've completely researched it.
DON'T dose vodka unless you have a very good skimmer and very good water circulation, as dosing Vodka lowers the water's ability to "hold" oxygen.
DON'T overdose and watch for a bacterial bloom, which is a sign of overdosing.

Vodka dosing works very well, when done correctly.

i would use brightwell aquatics reef bio-fuel it is a safe alternative to vodka dosing with normally better results. and is harder to overdose then vodka. just my observation.

Been dosing my system for awhile now. I dose both vodka and vinegar. The key is to start slow and monitor often. Also have a good skimmer (thats a must). As far as MB7, you can put it as a starter culture elixir for bacteria in your system.

I would mix vodka, sugar and vinegar, it is beleived certain bacteria can utilize different carbon sources easier.
I would not dose carbon if you have no issues unless your doing it in smaller amounts just to increase bacteria as a food source.

Only into Saltwater for 9 months but wanted to add, Vodka Dosing worked for me perfectly!
I followed this method Vodka Dosing by 'Genetics' and 'Stony_Corals' - Reefkeeping.com and in 21 days I went from Nitrates 30ppm to 0ppm. I used a hyperdermic without the needle for exact dosing. It is amazing how little Vodka you use in a 150g tank....lol

Have been dosing for a while. Very happy with the results. Just recently I have had a cyno outbreak. Not bad but is irritating to see it on my sand bed. Phosphates are 0 on a Hanna checker. All other perameters are good. I dose 1ml of vodka 6 days a week and 1ml of vinegar for the seventh day. A friend of mine suggested that and it worked of him. My total system is 75 gallons and do weekly water changes of 2.5 gallons a week. Any suggestions?
