Would you guys recommend dosing a 28g with nitrates around 10ppm? I have done many water changes, but I don't see my nitrates go anywhere. I ha HOB mini remora skimmer that stopped working due to the use of underwater putty to stick some of my frags(I don't know when will it start producing skimmate again). I would need a better skimmer first no? or can it be done with my current skimmer?

If you were to Dose, that skimmer would be ok. But with Trates only at 10, I wouldn't do it.

Thanks for the replies, I took my water to the LFS and it checked out perfect. I think that my test kit is expired, since it's years old. Time to buy a new kit.

for a tank that small. I would suggest just keep doing more frequent water changes to lower the nitrate until you get to a comfortable level.
dosing vodka is dangerous. there are so many ways with supplements to lower nitrate. for example: vodka, vinegar. zeostart3...etc.
what test kit you was using to measure nitrate?

First you say Vodka dosing is dangerous then recommend it?

I agree 10ppm is pretty good and that water changes should be enough to keep things under control. Smaller tanks react very quickly to any type of additive. My nitrates are usually between 5-10 and I just leave them.

Vodka dosing is perfectly fine if done correctly. But at this point you don't need it. If your trates get out of control them you might consider carbon dosing.

Agreed. I Vodka Dose to this day. Nothing wrong with being able to feed your fish as much as you want.

A smaller tank will only react differently if you overdose vodka if you used .1 ml as a starting dose on a 28 with a skimmer running and watch your alkalinity which you should if you are keeping a reef of any size anyway there might be a big reaction in better sps colors if you keep sps....

But with nitrates at 10 and a skimmer with issues I wouldnt do it it also helps bring phosphates down but in a nano there are other methods like chemipure

A bit difficult to overdose Vodka. You'd have to dump in the bottle.
