Vodka Dosing Help!!

i have been dosing vodka 8ml 1 over year, i did not know the dosing pump went out(for a week). My Water start turning cloudy, i check everything out my nitrate 5 and phosp 3, went up and small break red slime. I did a water change and so i start dosing vodka small amout 33 ml the water gets clear and next day cloudy. What else do i need to do? This is about 3 weeks ago!

the cloudy is probablyu a small bacterial bloom, a small WC can't hurt. It will probably clear in a day or two tho.

I would stop dosing all together until it goes away and do a few small water changes just in case. I agree it sounds like a bacterial bloom but Im not sure why you would get a bloom when your pump stopped dosing, this usually happens from dosing too much. Did the water cloud when you started dosing again or when you weren't dosing? The most harmful part of a bacterial bloom would be lack of oxygen in the water.

First water got cloudy, i check every thing but normly nitrate and phos 0, but they were high. Thats why i fine the dosing pump was out. I have talk to diffrect people and they said i need and more back 8 ml and some keep dosing slowly and just stop doing. i remeber when i start using vodka doing that u really can just Stop!

If your having a bacterial bloom more harm will come from dosing then not. When it comes to vodka dosing it's better to error on the side of caution. What skimmer are you running, it's important that you keep the water well oxygenated until things clear up.

I have stopped numerous times w/o issue. Better to stop and figure out than keep doing what may be harming tank.

I have Hurricone Cat 1 and 20 refugium, 2 mp40w and 2 koralia 4. I am going to do another 25% WC and i will stop vodka dosing. I hope this work!:neutral:

have u retested since a few days ago yet to see if things are changing? has the cloudiness gone down any since a few days ago?

The bacteria bloom is from starting the Dosing back up, with the system not used to it. It over grows bacteria quickly when you go right back to where you were. You can cut the Dose in half and this should cleear your water back up, then you can slowly over the period of a few weeks, get that dose back up to where you had it.
