Vodka Dosing

Justin,I've dosed myself with vodka...couldn't tell if it worked all my parimeters seem normal...LOL  Theirs a company that has a reactor out, comes charged with bactiera, they say if you use it you don't have to do water changes, hokkie,to re charge it they dose it with vodka.

I have dosed to rid my tank of hair algae it worked, I have since stopped dosing, and once my trates get up again Im going to try the no3 po4 X regiment. Make sure your skimmer is a one up skimmer, meaning able to handle twice your tanks water volume. Make sure you have a good low range no3 and low range po4 test kit (red sea), one problem i had is I had the api test and I ended up with absolute zero nitrates. Which is not good.

I did it awhile back on my larger tanks. Dosed the bacteria as well. Didn't experience any problems but didn't notice much improvement either. Maybe I was too low on the dosing but I didn't want a big bacteria bloom that can occur from excessive dosing.

So.....Vodka will help with an Algae problem? Brown or Green?

I'm betting I should just research it. :)

I use the redseafish Nopox myself and i have had excellent results. I tried vodka but it evaporated out of the bottle too quick.lol Anyway the nopox is easy to dose and it will control the nitrates and phosphates. I only use a little everyday. If you go to Redseafish.com they have a excellent video that explains all the benifits in using nopox.

I tried Vodka and really like the result. Not only my nitrates are down to a respectable level the water clarity is so clear and the corals loves it.

I still use Vodka. The bacteria will eat out the Nitrates first and foremost, then it goes after the Phosphates, at a much slower rate.
