Vodka dosing

Hair Alge issues. Just started an ats 3 days ago. Should I try vodka or let ats work a few weeks. 90 gal mixed reef,55 gal sump,is vodka bad on corals? Any help appreciated

I would let the ATS kick in but also run some GFO and get a tang if you dont have one.

What are your nitrates and phosphate levels?

I have a sailfin. He dosent eat the hair. But does pick at Alge on back of tank. Can I run gfo in a filter sock

yes you can run it in a filter sock, but it just wont be as efficient

Salinity is too high, not that it matters for algae.
Do you have a test kit for phospahtes? if so what kind is it?

I was just going to post a recap of my vodka dosing. I didn't do it for a phosphate issue, I had an issue with nitrates creeping up. I'm on my 10th day of dosing currently. Within three days the clarity of the tank (I didn't have an issue with the tank being cloudy to start FYI) improved by about 25%. My nitrates dropped from 15-20 when I started almost two weeks ago down to zero two days ago. My sps seem much happier now although prior to the vodka dosing my sps were still doing good.

I will just go ahead and say that there are no perfect test kits out there for phosphates. But I promise you that the API is not telling the truth.
You need to invest in a Hanna checker for phoshates to get a decent idea of whats really going on in your tank.

give that scrubber a good 4 weeks to kick in. its the hair algae that really uptakes the nitrates and phosphates from what I have read.
