I'm interested in learning about vodka dosing however I've heard if you don't know what you are doing and you do it wrong you can kill everything. I have a 65gal with fish and some different corals. How exactly do I dose and what benefits does it have? Will it increase coral growth and color? Will it help my tank stay cleaner?

hey reef i have been dosing vodka for over 2 years now with no ill effects .. my corals look better .. water is cleaner .. if your going to do it always start slow with it and work your bio up to the right dose .. here is a chart of what i did when i started .. but this was on a 180 gallon tank ..

Thank you I appreciate it! I have a 65gal any suggestions on where i may find a chart for my tank? I'm running a phosban reactor I was using phoslock now I'm going to start bio plastics will these have the same affect? Will they help or make it worse? Or if I do vodka should I not use them?

Don't use bio pellets with vodka, it does the same thing and I personally prefer vodka-vinegar mix using the vsv recipe without sugar (I use the recipe with lower vinegar than vodka). Keep running your phosphate media, vodka does very little to eliminate phosphates.

Only way to truly screw it up is if you take to much yourself and you dump the bottle in the tank. Hard to overdose. If you forget to add a dose in the am or pm, do not double the dose next time. Just go back to normal routine.
Put on your patience cap. Following the normal dosing guidelines, will take some time to bring down the Nitrates in the tank to 0 levels. A Long time.

Take the missed dose your self. And enjoy your tank.

Vodka dosing is the only way I can get the nitrates down with a heavy load and frequent feedings

Thank you very much reef madness I appreciate the link and the info. And lol coral I like my vodka a bit higher shelf than what I assume would be used for a tank but this means I've finally found usefulness for Nast cheap vodka like crystal palace lol
