Vodka dosing

How much should I dose on a 34 gallon for nitrates off the charts? A friend of mine asked and I've never had to do it. Thanks

I personally prefer vinegar, but vodka is a fine thing to try.

I'm not sure it is necessary to proceed quite as slowly as that article suggests.

ok so I have a 65 gal and I estimate 10 gal displacement. So according to the article I am to dose .2 - .25 ml per day? How do I measure such a small amount? Do I figure one drop from an eye dropper to be .1?

You can dilute 1 part vodka into 10 or 100 parts total volume with water, then you can dose either 2-2.5 mL or 20-25 mL.

Ya know I consider myself a pretty smart guy and can't believe that didn't occur to me lol. I appreciate the genuine response and not calling me a dumb ***. This modern age of unlimited info is amazing. This forum has again proven to be the most informative and kind members of any that I have visited.

My advice about vodka dosing (as a successful vodka doser) is to be patient. It may seem like nothing is happening for quite a while (weeks or even months), but when it does start to kick in, the nitrate level will drop pretty quickly. The first sign things are going well is when the film on the glass turns from greenish/brownish to white. And Randy is right; you don't have to go as slowly as the article suggests. I ramped things up at twice the rate the article suggests with no issues.

So by ramping things up did you double the dosage immediately or in shorter intervals?
