Been reading about voltage in reef tanks and am Curious if people are getting voltage in their reef tanks and how high it is without using earth probes ….. know it’s been covered and have read most of them…..

It’s hit and miss. Best way to determine is using a volt meter.
some will stick their finger in tank and sump looking for that sting voltage emits
Saltwater and electricity don’t blend well
Always use a ground probe in your tank
Electrical culprits are generally:
Return pump
Power heads
Heaters
Protein skimmer

Tank only Being running 4 months and only tested it because I stumbled across a post….. Currently my tank is at 47v…… Nothing massively out reading wise every piece of equipment is outputting a voltage into the tank…… Had them out one at a time and retested so nothing i can see is at fault….. Lots of mixed posts about running a earth probe….

Anyone explain when testing voltage on auto V LoZ I don’t get a voltage reading in my tank but when testing on V I get stupid voltage?

Ive proved Auto on known 240v socket (uk) and get 240v

Hi im in liverpool now and finding it brilliant city but miss my yorkshire folk as find little different here but liverpool just a better city with less crime and i find more friendler but ^_^

With researching and reading people like jay hemdal saying stray voltage wont kill fish i never even considered a grounding probe so cant help you on that sorry.
I havent used a multimeter in quite some years since i used to fix gas boiler due to health issues but dont you need it on the first or second setting to the right of the " off" setting it says v with squiggly line above or one next to it.i outlined the 2 i think but had big thumbs and sort went over one lol
As i say its been quite some time since i used one so maybe im wrong

How Do I Check for Stray Voltage??

Talk to me like I'm clueless, because I am. I know I need a multimeter... One probe in the water and one to a good "ground". Set to DC, correct? Do I need a grounding probe in the tank as well? I read that if you aren't plugged in to a particular type of outlet that a grounding probe can become...

According to redfishblue fish in above thread he saying ac = the v with squiggly line like i guessed first that first setting to right if the " off so 3rd setting to the right

Ye sorted it now… both are voltage just with high and low impedance …… done some reasearch and found the voltages to be normal just some people ground there tanks and some don’t ….. Ye you correct it won’t harm the time….. thanks for your input…… The voltage V on the right gives a ghost voltage that’s induced if that makes sense……

So went to feed fish, and got zapped. Culprit was power Head. Plugged it in, and checked to ground 62 volts AC. Unplugged it and was amazed how the coral reacted. Will show before and after.
